Update from City Council Meeting
[By Verla Lambert- Board Member]

Report on February 8, 2011

  • Very interesting evening, I was there at 5:30pm just in case they had close session. Lo and behold they had a Study Session, and I was allowed to sit in, it is open to the public if you know about it.
  • Subject:   Redevelopment Project Update
    • City Manager gave a great presentation on a number of ongoing projects. The meeting was due to the fact that we don’t know what Gov. Brown may do and we need to be prepared. He talked on all areas, Harbor Blvd., Brookhurst Triangle, Willow Wick, Public Transportation, Century Triangle, and Main Street Parking Lot Project. What they are going to do right now is the landscaping from Chapman to the Water Park Hotel such as lighting, palm trees, replacing very good sidewalks. As the agreement with Anaheim to beautify the tourist district. There will be more study sessions so keep your eyes and ears open.
  • As for the rest of the meeting night most of it business as usual. Recognition of Carolinas Italian Restaurant was very nice and well deserved. The business Ice Kiss#2 did not get their appeal, they still have to close at 10:00pm and 11:00pm.Public Safety: Are making adjustment on the new P/D and Fire departments building.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT:

Thank you from your President:

I would love to give each of you that donated to our 7 families a great big hug. Consider this a big hug and an even bigger “thank you”.

Through your generosity, 7 families had enough food to have a big Christmas feast and food for weeks to come. And the children had toys to open and play with.

You have been so generous. May your families be blessed with health and happiness always!

Sincerely,

Toby Rubin

President; Central Garden Grove Neighborhood Association

A Letter from the Vice-President:

 Happy New Year, Neighbors,

On December 1st, President Rubin mentioned to me she wanted to the CGGNA to adopt-a-family from Stanford School. I inwardly smiled and thought “No way. It is three weeks before Christmas! Impossible.” Boy was I wrong. From the moment the project was announced until long after Christmas Day the donations poured in.

You gave in a variety of ways. One neighbor gave in the name of her recently deceased father. One member shopped for toys and clothes and came back the next day with 6 frozen turkeys. When asked where she got them, she responded “I have my sources!” Through the work of one kind woman, our 6 families were added to her Target ($50) gift card list. One family donated 6-$25.00 gift cards to Stater’s. A long-time member of our association came with a monetary donation, a box of art supplies and socks. Her son was also touched sent a check from Oklahoma! Donations of money, canned goods, dried goods, toys, socks, clothes were graciously given.

The accomplishment was not without work. Toby spoke to every grocery store manager in this town. Some were able to give a donation from the store (Stater’s and Trader Joe’s) and some managers gave of from their own heart (Walgreens at Euclid and 99 cent’s Store at Valley View).

Your monetary donations were spent wisely; we shopped discount stores, used coupons, hunted down sales, and baked homemade goodies. Each family received a truck full of groceries and gifts. Each family received a turkey, a ham, eggs, cheese, bread, bacon, peanut butter, jelly, flour, sugar, spaghetti and sauce, fresh produce, soups, noodles, chocolates, oil, butter, fresh-baked cookies, cases of canned veggies and fruits. There was a baby doll for the two little girls and a family game for other families. Each mom received a $50 gift card to Target. The goodies were packed, wrapped, and lovingly delivered the Sunday before Christmas. It was done with little fan-fare to keep the pride of each family intact. Smiles and appreciation were everywhere.

It was an honor to deliver such an abundance of gifts in the name of the Central Garden Grove Neighborhood Association. Thank you for “adopting” these families. You should all be proud. I am.

Sincerely,

Maureen Blackmun

Vice-President; Central Garden Grove Neighborhood Association
