TERM
LIMIT CHANGE FOR CITY COUNCIL:
The City Council has
approved a ballot measure for the November 4, 2008, General Election,
to amend the City's term limits ordinance. The ammendment would
shorten the wait time to
two years from four for a termed-out councilman. The measure
went down in flames.
Speeding on Stanford: On Wednesday evening
November 5th, the Traffic Commission took up the issue of calming the
speeding traffic along Stanford Avenue between
Brookhurst and Gilbert. Staff recommended and the Commision
approved the installation of stripping along the edges to lessen the
speedway look of the street. They also approved the installation
of wig-wag lights and a radar-sign system that will report a car's
speed. Further, they tasked staff to develpe traffic dampening
requirements for the developer of the Brookhurst Triangle when the
scope of the project is known.
Century
Triangle:
The City Council granted an exclusive negotiating
agreement for the Century Triangle bordering Century Blvd, GG
Blvd and Grand Street to Brandywine for 180
days to produce plans for apartments on the site.
Traffic Light
at Lampson and Gilbert:
The City Council recently decided to remove the 4 way
stop sign intersection of Lampson and Gilbert from
the priority traffic signal list. The Traffic Commission
advised the removal due to a recent traffic study citing a reduction in
traffic due to the 22 freeway improvements and the additional lane on
Garden Grove Blvd. If in the future the intersection is
re-evaluated the public will be given an opportunity to speak at public
hearings for both the Traffic Commission and the City Council.

Grand
Jury Calls for a 3 Year Moratorium! / City Council, Wait and See
- Several City Council Members feel that the Grand Jury report is
slanted and opt for a wait and see policy.
- The Orange County Grand Jury has just published a report
addressing the sale of fireworks in Orange County. They have advised
the suspension of the sales and use of fireworks for a three year
period. The report is titled "Anatomy of Safe and Sane
Fireworks in Orange County" It was released April 24, 2008.
You can review the report at: http://www.ocgrandjury.org/pdfs/fireworks/fireworks.pdf
(Be patient this is a slow download. It is 14 pages.)
- Russ McDonald,
who is leading the effort to put the fireworks issue on the ballot, has
a heart condition,
atrial fibrillation. Consequently, he has withdrawn the petition
