Dear Neighbor,

This month is shaping up to be the month of change in our city.  The City Council is proposing to change to a charter city with the ultimate decision cast by the voters in February as well as the recent positive change by our city council's decision to continue with tourist and family friendly development along Harbor Boulevard.

Tuesday, September 18th, Community Center at 11300 Stanford Avenue, AARP will provide an update for the proposed petition to ban the sale of fireworks in our city and hear from a victim of extensive damage to his home this year from fireworks here in Garden Grove. More information contact 530-1715.

Friday, September 21st, the Garden Grove Downtown Business Association case regarding the proposed 100 condominium development in the west parking lot will have their day in court.  The public is welcome to attend the hearing at 9:00 am, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana, courtroom C28 of the Orange County Superior Court to hear this precedent setting case for redevelopment agencies practices and policies. Contact Scott Weimer 534-0992 for more news http://www.savehistoricmainstreet.com

Tuesday, September 25th, City Council will consider a proposed change from our current General Law City to a Charter City also referred to as a new "Constitution" for our city.  If approved, the matter will be placed on the February 2008 ballot for your vote for or against the change to a Charter City.  This proposed change to a Charter City could bring more local control to our city council, change term limits and create six separate city council districts with the mayor continuing to be elected citywide. The proposal can be viewed on the city website click on the Charter Proposal at http://www.ci.garden-grove.ca.us/  See our website for additional information http://www.cggna.org   You are encouraged to read the proposed charter and attend the next City Council meeting to offer your comments.

Last Tuesday night, our City Council chose a family friendly proposal for themed hotels with 1,200 rooms; 80,000 square feet meeting space; 120,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment as well as partially enclosed Water Park by McWhinney Enterprises in the competitive bidding process, also known as the request for proposal. The decision puts to rest the contentious issue of bringing a gambling casino to Harbor Boulevard.

Update for the proposed Super Wal-Mart at the previous Vons Pavilion on Chapman Avenue, the final draft for the Environmental Report is being completed.  The Public Hearing is scheduled for Thursday, October 18th, with the appeal to City Council set for November 27th.
