Dear Neighbor,
Yesterday, our Garden Grove
firefighters and Anaheim firefighters extinguished a house fire at
12841 Gilbert Street. Thankfully, the three residents are safe
and have another residence to live in while the estimated $40,000.00 in
damage is repaired. Our police department initially responded and
alerted the firefighters. We are grateful for the Orange County
Register report and the prompt response of our Police and Fire
Departments. See more info and photos courtesy of OC Register: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/fire-garden-grove-2381188
The City Council approved
the plans for a Buddhist Temple
on the SE corner of Chapman and Nutwood. There was a legal struggle to
permit the conversion from a medical complex to a religious
facility. The project includes two buildings, one for living
quarters and the other a temple.
The City Council froze employee wages for the
2009-2010 fiscal year, according to the Garden Grove Journal. The only
concession the city gave was to add Veteran’s Day as a paid
holiday. To see the website, click on article for GG

Proposition 1A implements a spending cap based
on the rate of growth from the last 10 years. If approved, it would
extend the length of the taxes approved by the Legislature.
Proposition 1B changes the state's education
funding law - Proposition 98 - for supplemental education payments to
local districts due to recent budget cuts.
Proposition 1C borrows from future
lottery earnings.
Proposition 1D takes money from the
First 5 Commissions - aka Proposition 10 funds - to help balance the
budget.
Proposition 1E takes money from the
Mental Health Services Act - aka Proposition 63 funds - to help balance
the budget.
Proposition 1F prevents state-level
elected officials from receiving pay raises in years when the state is
running a deficit.
After much discussion, our CGGNA membership dues will be
increased to $12.00 per year. We felt the increase to be
necessary in order to cover the increased cost of postage to mail out
our monthly newsletters and to fund our annual meeting.
Our annual neighborhood meeting is
scheduled for Saturday, July 11th at
10:00 a.m. at the Armstrong
Barn at 12421 Loraleen Street, off Lampson just east of
Magnolia. We look forward to hearing from our elected representatives
from the federal, state and local levels. We will have a hot dog
lunch immediately following the meeting at 11:30 a.m. This is our once
a year neighborhood meeting where you can come and ask questions, visit
with neighbors and get involved. See you there!
Thoughtfully,
Robin Marcario,
President 534-1428
