Attention Neighbors!

There will be a City Council meeting this Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 6:30pm, Council Chambers 11300 Stanford Avenue.  Our city council will make a final decision regarding a request for a zone change from the current 15,000 square feet lot size to a reduced to 9,000 square feet at 9792 Stanford.

Your attendance at next Tuesday's meeting is very, very important if we wish to preserve our neighborhood !
The City Council appointed Mr. Steve Jones to be the newest City Council member on April 16th, 2007.  He has served on the Planning Commission for eight years and owns Olympia Holdings Corporation, a Garden Grove-based real estate and investment company. He has never run for city council.

Recently, our mayor and members of the City Council voted to demolish the west side Main Street parking lot (which serves the merchants and businesses of Historic Main Street) and allowed a developer to use the land to build a 5-Story, 100-unit condominium complex.  The City Council decision was approved against the wishes of the business community, property owners, and citizens of Garden Grove.  All felt that the loss of parking would not only cause existing businesses to close down or move away, but would also discourage new business from investing in this historic area.

As a last resort, the Garden Grove Downtown Business Association made up of business people, property owners and concerned citizens filed a lawsuit to try and block this proposed development. You can help contribute with a tax deductible check to: Save Historic Main Street, 12866 Main Street #100, Garden Grove, CA 92840.    http://www.savehistoricmainstreet.com/

We would like to welcome our newest interim board member, Barbara Barker, a resident in our city for over forty years, a retired elementary teacher and professor from our local public schools and university, volunteer for our local policing and has served on various local commissions and boards.

The participation and support of as many neighbors as possible will help preserve our neighborhoods and address the serious issues of re-zoning, the unfair and unethical development of property as well as issues related to the use of eminent domain.

Thoughtfully,
Robin Marcario, Chair
