Dear Neighbor,
Great news! Two of our members, Dr. Sheldon Singer and Dr. Melville Singer,
will be the theme marshals for
the 51st Garden Grove Strawberry
Festival on May 22-25. These brothers have dedicated
decades of their lives to medicine and community service.
In addition, two of our members were
appointed to serve on advisory commissions to the City Council. Harry Pearce, our Webmaster, was
appointed to the Sanitary Commission
and Robin Marcario, our
President, was appointed to the Neighborhood
Improvement Commission. They are both informed and
involved voices in service to our community.
The Planning Commission approved the subdivision into two parcels at 9461 Catherine Avenue on the
northwest corner of Catherine and
Gilbert. The commission comments represented the facts of
full compliance with building codes and zoning laws. Now, the existing
home will be renovated, with the second lot and new home to be
constructed in five years after sewer improvements are completed along
Gilbert.
A previously approved proposal to build a
Starbucks in the "Little Brookhurst
Triangle" at Brookhurst, Brookhurst Way and Stanford has been extended for one year. An
extension was requested and granted. The developer needed additional
time to build as the economic climate improves.
The City Council approved the use of artificial/synthetic turf as
landscaping in Garden Grove. The new ordinance sets standards for color
and percentage of landscaping as well as installation and drainage.
Residents will be eligible for a rebate from the Orange County Water
District as an incentive to conserve water at the end of April.

The City of Garden Grove and Channel 3
are sponsoring an informative video addressing our aging water and
sewer infrastructure, “Liquid Assets: The Story of Our Water
Infrastructure.” The program is a 90-minute documentary that shows a
water delivery system that’s falling apart. http://www.ci.garden-grove.ca.us/?q=pw/LiquidAssets
The Garden Grove Chapter of AARP will host Kris Bachouris, from
our Garden Grove Police Department. She will discuss identity theft, neighborhood protection and
police response to July 4th fireworks at their general
meeting. The meeting is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd at
12:30 p.m. The meetings are held in room B of the Community
Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Avenue. These are important issues to
our members. See you there!
This month’s CGGNA Board Meeting will be held at
Azteca’s Mexican Restaurant on Main Street. The meeting is
scheduled for Tuesday,
April 21st at 5:30 p.m. We are in the preliminary stages
