Dear Neighbor,
Update
from City Council meeting on
March 11, 2008: The majority of our board and other concerned
residents spoke in favor of examining all seven proposals for the Brookhurst Triangle, a 13.9 acre
site currently owned by our city Redevelopment Agency. The agenda
listed only one developer, JPI California Development. The City
Council wisely chose to continue the decision for two weeks to display
the seven proposals in the lobby of City Hall and to create a complete
presentation of all seven proposals at the next City Council meeting.
Next Tuesday, March 25, 2008, there is a City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at 11300 Stanford Avenue,
at which time a decision will be made regarding the Brookhurst
Triangle. It is important for you to
attend this meeting! The developer and project chosen at
this meeting will be granted an exclusive negotiating agreement for
three months to submit final plans for approval by the City Council.
There will be an opportunity for residents to question and comment
after the presentation of all seven development projects. This is your
opportunity to have a say in what you want built at the Brookhurst
Triangle - What kind of density is suitable for the site? Do we want a
mixture of residential and retail? Do we want a park? We
hope to see you at this meeting in order to let our elected City
Council know what we want!
Russ McDonald has created a
ballot initiative in order for the voters to decide whether fireworks
sales and use in our city should continue or not. On 3/11/08 the
"Notice of Intent to Circulate the Petition" was formally announced at
City Council. Russ needs volunteers
to collect the thousands of signatures needed to qualify. If you
would like more information regarding how to sign the petition or to
volunteer, please contact Russ
McDonald at 714-636-6267 or e-mail him at gatornavy1@earthlink.net
