Dear Member,
Our City Council recently created
city citations for illegal fireworks usage which will be
initiated on the 4th of July of this year. Anyone who uses illegal
fireworks will receive a citation at the time of violation and a fine
of up to $1,000.00. Our Police Department will be out in force, with
upwards of 90 officers, patrolling and issuing citations for illegal
fireworks usage. The illegal fireworks are dangerous and hazardous to
people and property. Our City Council has stepped up to crackdown on
illegal fireworks!
The outcome of the first supervisor
race has yet to be finalized. We have been without a
County Supervisor representing our district since January. A
trial is set for March 21st to determine the final outcome of the
election. Janet Nguyen, Garden Grove Councilmember, won the
recount and was certified by the Registrar of Voters, Neal Kelley. The
second place candidate, Trung Nguyen, Garden Grove School Board Member,
has challenged the recount. There will be a vacancy created for
either our City Council or school board depending on the outcome of the
trial.
Our City Council will decide soon, who will serve on the various
voluntary commission positions.
If you are interested you can contact the City Clerk, Ruth Smith, at
741-5040, or fill out an application on line at,

Update on proposed Super-Walmart,
grocery and retail store: the planning department is awaiting the three impact reports.
The three impact reports include: environmental, traffic and
economic. The reports are compiled by the applicant. Our
planning commission and city council will review the reports and listen
to public input before making a decision.
We are pleased to welcome a new interim
board member, Russ McDonald. He is a twenty five year
resident of Garden Grove, President and founder of USS Montrose
Veterans Association and serves in our local AARP.
Please complete the enclosed survey.
We are interested in hearing where our membership stands on the
possibly of banning fireworks, a proposed Super-Walmart, and creating
separate city council districts. We thank you for your time and
interest in advance.
Thoughtfully,
Robin Marcario, Chair
