Dear Member,

Planning Commission update for the meeting held on Thursday, January 18th, 2007.  The commission denied the request to rezone. The commission makes recommendations of approval or denial of applicant requests to our elected city council. The applicant, property owner, at 9792 Stanford requested a zone change from the current 15,000 square feet lot size be reduced to 9,000 square feet which would have allowed for four homes on the site.

The denial by the planning commission means they did not recommend the development. The applicant may appeal to the city council to review the planning commission decision.
We will continue to communicate with city hall.

Our current zoning would allow an additional home to be built. The current zoning of 15,000 sqft was initiated by our neighborhood in 1993, our city council decided in favor.  The owner could divide the 42,000 sqft lot into two lots with a road along one side for access to the back property.  There is another home just east of the property which has built a home in the back section of a deep lot also known as a flag lot.  It is zone compliant.  The process is easier than requesting exceptions to the laws such as re-zoning and variances.

We would like to thank all of you who wrote letters, attended the meeting and spoke at the public hearing.  There were over fifty residents in attendance.  Some of the residents who spoke have lived here for over fifty years while newer residents told how they searched to buy a home specifically in our neighborhood with large lots and custom homes. The residents provided varied testimony from an historical overview to the merits of maintaining consistent zoning and the overwhelming desire to preserve our unique neighborhood.

Special Election on Tuesday, February 6th, 2007. This election is to fill the vacancy for our County Supervisor.  It is important, vote!  Candidate statements can be viewed at:
