The meeting started promptly at 10am
Chair- Robin Marcario, opened the meeting and gave a brief history of
CGGNA over the last four years. Highlighting the support CGGNA has
received from our city council this year in maintaining the residential
zoning on Stanford, the inclusion of a citizens committee to review the
water rate increase and the establishment of an illegal fireworks
ordinance for city citations. CGGNA continues to closely follow
the progress in updating the General Plan, a possible Super Wal-Mart
and whether the creation of city council districts or a charter city is
best for our community.
CGGNA business was conducted by Vice-Chair, Harry Pearce. The following
business was discussed and approved unanimously by the member’s
who were present.
1- Paragraph 2.1 will
be changed to read “Association membership is open to any adult
resident or business owner of Garden Grove”
2- Harry Peace and Janine Fowler are termed out. The
bylaws outline that the officers can be extended for one year by
approval of the members.
3- Interim Board Members, RH McDonald and Barbara
Barker were approved to be Permanent Board Members.

Although Senator Lou Correa was not scheduled to speak, he was invited
up to the microphone by Assemblyman Van Tran.
The speakers provided national, state and local, and illegal fireworks
information. Councilman Mark Rosen introduced our newest Councilman
Steve Jones. The residents and business owners had good interaction
with the representatives during and after the meeting.
The resident’s questions focused on smart development, better
planning, infrastructure, lower density, Wal-Mart, illegal fireworks
and green – sustainable development.
Assemblyman Van Tran gave a generous gift of 5 books to the board. The
board will have a drawing with our current members to determine who
will be the recipient of the 5 books.
The attendance count was 135, which was almost double from the 75 who
attended 2006 annual meeting. Out of the 135, we had 12 new members, 43
renewed memberships. 25 applications were given out along with our web
site address. Those who did not join today, usually mail in the
application within the 2 weeks following the meeting based on our prior
records. The remaining 61 residents were repeat guests to our
annual meeting who confirmed they wished to stay on the mailing list.
Dues collected totaled $553. $3 of this total was a donation.
A special table was provided to our members who have local businesses
in which they could advertise their businesses.
Hotdogs, chips, cookies, sodas and water were served from 11:30 to
Noon. Many guests/members stayed until almost 1pm which is when the
last of the guests left.
Thank you to Cheryl’s husband Tom who cooked the hotdogs and her
out of town company who assisted in setting up, keeping the food and
drinks stocked and clean up.
