Traffic
Issues:
Euclid to Main Street:
There
is a continuing problem
with high speed traffic southbound on Euclid slowing as they transition
to Main Street. A meat axe proposal to eliminate the problem by
closing the transition was voted down 5 to 0. On Tuesday evening
March 3rd, the Commission elected to install an expanded rumble zone of
street divider bumps. (3/3/09)
Speeding
on Stanford:
On
Wednesday evening
November 5th, the Traffic Commission took up the issue of calming the
speeding traffic along Stanford Avenue between
Brookhurst and Gilbert. Staff recommended and the Commision
approved the installation of stripping along the edges to lessen the
speedway look of the street. They also approved the installation
of wig-wag lights and a radar-sign system that will report a car's
speed. Further, they tasked staff to develope traffic dampening
requirements for the developer of the Brookhurst Triangle when the
scope of the project is known. (11/5/08)
Stripping
and radar
speed signs ordered by the Traffic Commission have
been installed. They seem to be working! All speeding has
not
been eliminatied, but the general flow seems to have slowed. With
signs announcing one's speed and a radar gun for confirmation, a
speeder would have little defence in traffic court. Thank you
Garden Grove and
thank you Traffic Commission. (3/7/09)
Traffic Light
at Lampson and Gilbert:
The
City Council recently
decided to remove the proposal for a
traffic light at the intersection of Lampson and Gilbert from the
priority traffic signal list. The Traffic Commission advised
against a traffic signal there because of a recent traffic study citing
a reduction in traffic due to the 22 freeway improvements and the
additional lane on Garden Grove Blvd. If that intersection should
be re-evaluated in the future, local citizens will be given an
opportunity to speak at public hearings in front of both the Traffic
Commission and the City Council.
